Carey Austerman

Carey began his guiding career during the 2010/2011 season by successfully completing the infamous big red cats guide training program. And he is now working full time with Big Red Cats for the 2011/2012 season. Along with being one of the youngest members of the team, at only twenty years old, he is also one of few guides who's powder-poaching weapon of choice is a snowboard. His favourite run at Big Red is anywhere on the north side of candy mountain. Originally from Okotoks Alberta, Carey learned to snowboard at resorts near Calgary, including; Fernie, Sunshine, Lake Louise, Nakiska, Kimberley, and Castle Mountain. His favourite powder board is called the "back country" manufactured by Prior. In the summertime Carey enjoys doing plenty of hiking, camping, quadding, and has recently got into kayaking. As for work he has begun a cabinet-making apprenticeship while working for United Wood Products in High River Alberta, building solid wood passage and cabinet doors. He also enjoys designing and building his own custom wood projects and wood turning. His favourite thing about Big Red Cats is the massive amount of terrain they have, and the massive amounts of snow to go with it!
