Fat skis

If your skis are less than 85mm at the waist, you should seriously consider renting a pair of powder skis, as they will float you over the snow and make your experience less strenuous and more enjoyable.  While our skis are fatter, they are shaped and weighted to perform well off-piste in deep snow and in the trees.  If you are not an expert skier, or you aren't in great shape, you'll appreciate how easy the fat skis make skiing in deep powder, so that you enjoy your day more and don't burn out your legs as quickly, so that you can enjoy the whole day.

Ski rental is $39/day - however there is a 10% discount for multiple day rentals if you reserve at the time you make your cat skiing booking, and give us your height, weight, age, skier type, boot length (in mm, written on side of boot) in advance, so that we can get the gear organized quickly in the morning.  To book, just copy the rental form into an email and send us your info.  The skis in our rental fleet are all fairly new, if not brand new.  Have a look at the selection below, and if you have a preference, please specify, and give a second choice as well.  Poles are also available to rent for $5/day.

Interested in purchasing powder skis?  Our 2008 models are available for sale, from $200-300, depending on condition.  The 2009 models will be available after 10 March, for $250-350, including bindings.  If you rent and subsequently decide to purchase the same skis, the rental price will be deducted from the sale price.

rossiS7barras
2010 Rossignol S7 "Barras": 115mm at the waist, this reverse camber fat ski floats you on top of the pow and makes it easy to just surf down the mountain.  While experts love it too, it makes the most difference for those whose legs are likely to burn out in the deep pow, and who might not have as much experience skiing powder, because it is so easy to ski.

2009 Rossignol Phantom: 97mm wide, 178, 186 lengths.  The Phantom is the successor to the Bandit series; a more traditional fat ski that performs well in the trees.
b94_respect.jpg
2009 Rossignol B94 Respect: 94mm wide, 168 and 178 length - similar to the previous year's Bandit B94, a light and easy to manoevre backcountry ski.  It is our narrowest ski, for those who aren't into the reverse-camber style, and who want the feeling of skiing in deep snow.

2009 Rossignol S7 Caballero:
HUGE backcountry ski, 115mm underfoot, length 176 and 188 lengths; with a reverse camber so that you're surfing on 145mm in the front.  Using twin tip construction combined with a new tricked-out reverse camber, reverse sidecut shape and incorporating sidecut underfoot for navigating on the cat tracks, Rossignol claims to have created the perfect powder tool

2008 Rossignol B94
94mm wide, length 158, 168, 185 - our clients have been really happy on these skis; wide enough to float you over the snow, but narrow enough to manoevre and still feel like you're skiing in deep pow.
rossiwbsquad07.jpg
2008 Rossignol BSquad:  101mm wide, length 158, 168 - a nice fat ski, available in shorter lengths.

Rossi Jeremy Jones Half Gun, 164 long, BYO binding.

Typically, boarders are fine on their own snowboards, though it is often helpful to set your bindings all the way back in the powder.  If you have a tiny little board, however, you might want to swap over to this big boy for a bit of surfing.  If this isn't suitable, Red Mountain Resort has a selection of snowboards, but you'll need to pick up the afternoon before your catboarding day.
