Guide Manager

(ACMG: Ski Guide, CSGA: Level 3 IFMGA: Ski Guide/Bergfuehrer)

Number of Positions: 1

Overview:

We require a Guiding Manager who will provide both on-mountain and off-mountain leadership to the guide and snow safety team. The Guiding Manager will be supported by a team of experienced Supervising Guides (2). 

You will be responsible for guiding clients while managing hazards and risk for BRC, our guests, and our staff. In addition to this, you will be held accountable to provide an exceptional guest experience in the field. You will be responsible for assisting with the supervision, training, and mentoring of our less experienced ski guides to ensure that they demonstrate effective risk management while meeting expectations surrounding the guest experience. Working as a cohesive team, you will be expected to train and mentor less experienced guides with all guiding related skills, as well as helping to manage and lead the day-to-day ski program(s) and snow safety. 

Qualifications:

  • Certified Ski/Snowboard Guide (Level 3 CSGA or ACMG Ski Guide or foreign equivalent)
  • Level 2 Avalanche Technician (Canadian Avalanche Association) minimum, level 3 preferred.  Or foreign equivalent.
  • Advanced First Aid Attendant (80+ hours)
  • Outstanding skiing or snowboarding skills
  • Experience with chain sawing or brushing 
  • Extra languages an asset
  • Previous experience with Big Red Cats terrain and systems preferred
  • References will be checked

Compensation:

Permanent position

$500/day guiding.  Assumes 80 days during ski season, up to 6 days a week, and up to 90 days in off-season, exact dates flexible. 

Includes lunch.  Lodging can be arranged and incorporated into pay package if preferred.

Lead Guide & Avalanche Forescaster:

(ACMG: Ski Guide, CSGA: Level 2,  IFMGA: Ski Guide/Bergfuehrer)

Job Description/Duties:

  • Guiding of cat-skiing groups and providing exceptional customer service
  • Executing snow safety/forecasting shifts and duties as scheduled
  • Attending daily AM/PM guide meetings
  • Plan daily logistics (choose terrain for runs, risk assessments, forecast, etc.)
  • Upholding and adghering to safety policies/standards 
  • Observing/forecasting snow, weather, and avalanche conditions as part of forecaster duties

Qualifications:

  • Certified Ski/Snowboard Guide (Level 2 CSGA or ACMG Ski Guide or foreign equivalent)
  • Level 2 Avalanche Technician (Canadian Avalanche Association) minimum, Level 3 preferred (or foreign equivalent)
  • 80-hour First Aid certification 
  • BC Class 4 driver’s licence or equivalent
  • Extra languages are always a bonus!

Snowcat Operator

Job Description/Duties

  • Build & maintain snowcat roads
  • Transport staff & guests throughout day
  • Maintain and clean snowcats
  • Observe carefully and adhere to all company safety, operating, and maintenance
  • Assist guides with various duties when needed

Qualifications:

  • Previous snowcat driving experience (grooming/cat-skiing/heli-skiing)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Familiarity with cat-skiing and other backcountry operations preferred
  • Excellent navigation and radio communication skills

Compensation: Dependent on certification level and experience. Daily lunch included. Transportation to/from staging area from Rossland also included.

Tail Guiding Practicums:

Throughout the season we offer a limited number of spaces for those training to become a certified guide. This volunteer position involves active observation and participation in daily guiding operations. When not skiing with the groups there are a variety of other snow safety tasks to assist with. 

We are in the process of collecting applications until July 15, at which time we’ll begin the evaluation process for filling practicum spaces.  

Candidates considered for attending a practicum will be contacted by Aug 1.  Due to the high number of applications we receive, only those short-listed for a position will be contacted.

Requirements:

  • CAA Level 1 Operations course
  • 80-hour Wilderness First Aid required
  • CSGA1 qualification and previous ski patrol or instructing experience preferred
  • Canadian citizens and permanent residents only.
